Dead battery

My truck has been dying on me overnight or when it sits for a few hours and I am trying to figure out what the problem might be. I took it to a local shop and they said my battery, alternator, and starter were all good and my cables just needed to be cleaned. So they cleaned them and put some of the conductive grease on them and said it should be fine. My truck was dead again this morning and I’m trying to figure out why. I’m assuming it is drawing power from somewhere but I am not sure where. A few things that may help. My overhead lights sometimes flicker on when I step on the breaks. I think it has to do with my door latch possibly being bad so the truck thinks that the door is opening, but I wouldnt think that would happen overnight while the truck is just sitting so I wouldnt think that would be causing the drain. Also when the truck starts up after being jumped there is a whining/humming coming from the front of the engine. I was thinking maybe there is a pump of some sort going bad so maybe that is drawing power but I’m not sure. 2004 F150 5.4l 3V Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I won’t be surprised if it was the door switch. With the seasons changing and things getting cold outside, parts change size. Your interior lights could be coming on.

We had a chevy with the map lights on the rear view mirror. Adjust the mirror during the day and figure on the map light being on. Next day the battery would be dead.

Google or look around here for how to determine parasitic draw. You do have one.

If it gets worse hook up a dvom in series to the battery to read amperage. And check for parasitic draws. It’s easy just make sure your key isn’t in the ignition and everything on your car is off. Pop the hood disconnect the battery from the positive or negative side and put your leads from your dvom between the battery post and the terminal in series. If you see an amperage reading of more than 1/2 an amp then your have a parasitic drain on your electrical system.

My Grandpa would have this problem in is 98 S10. He bought a brand new battery one time and the next day it was completely dead. He hooked it to a charger and charged it up he noticed the Dome Lights on and simple just shut them all off. Never had a problem again.

Try turning off all your dome lights so they dont turn on with the doors open. Every roof dome light that i know of has a 3 position switch, OFF|Door|ON. also if your Truck has a Glove Box, Hood or Ashtray lights, make sure they are not staying on.

                    I’m liking your suggestion.
