      hi Everyone,
Just bought my daughter a 99 civic ex. The dashboard lights are really really dim. It is almost like there aren’t any lights at all. Also, there are no lights at the gear shifter. Shouldn’t the “R”, “N”, “D”, etc…be illuminated?

She does have an aftermarket stereo (Pioneer) and I have read that there might be electrical problems with non-Honda stereos.

If there are bulbs that need to be replaced, is this an easy job to do?

      Thanks,
      Scott

Check that the dimmer switch is all the way up.

Thanks for the quick reply. Of course, I checked the dimmer switch. When I turn it all the way down, it is black…no lights at all. All the way up, very dim lights. I am guessing that a few if not most of the lights are burned out. Or maybe that dimmer switch is messed up??

If you know the dimmer is at it’s highest setting as you say, I’d look to the stereo for the problem. You might even disconnect it to see if the problem changes or goes away. The console is suppose to light up. There’s a bulb down there that burns out that might need replacing.

Good luck and keep us posted.
