Hello, I’ve searched but didn’t find a problem that relates to me. My issue today is my 1991 civic si brake light came on the dash today. As far as diagnosis I checked brake fluid it seem fine. Couldn’t find leaks anywhere. I checked e-brake to make sure it disengages all the way. The thing that gets me is that the light is not constantly on the light slowly builds up to full tilt bright then stays on the goes off and then come back on. Brakes seem to be working Fine. Any ideas?

Does it do it when you going uphill/downhill, braking, accelerating? I would check brake fluid level sensor, should be on the side of reservoir, maybe it has corrosion and/or bad contact.

It does it even when the car is parked. I might check the contacts later when I get home

I checked the sensor on the master cylinder, and the contacts and connections are good, and the brake lights still flicker on and off

I would check the wiring for the parking brake switch and sensor to see if there is an intermittent short.

I checked those out also. I Depressed the switches by hand checked the connections clean the contacts but the light still flickers on and off

                  Does the car have ABS?

Even if the connections to the switches are in good shape, there is a good chance the physical wiring from the switch to the instrument cluster might be worn and touching a ground.

I believe the cap has the sensor/float built in.
check that its clean. If you need to clean the cap
and float with brake clean. see if this helps.

Disconnect the low fluid sensor and see if the light goes out. Jump the 2 wires and see if the light comes on. I believe that the sensor is bad.

The next possibility is the park brake switch is faulty. Again, disconnect it to see if the light goes out.

So today I cleaned the filter in the master cylinder, Checked the plug behind the dash, tested the e brake switch, light still flickers when car is on and not moving. Anybody else have ideas? Also replaced the master cylinder cap from another car

Did you disconnect / jump the connector as wysetech suggested to see if the light goes out/on? If you jump the wires for the sensor and the light stays solid and doesn’t flicker, then you know the sensor is bad. If it does still flicker, then your problem is elsewhere (Which I will guess to be wiring).
