      Hi All,

while i’m waiting for my parts and i just discovered some new issues. my 96 civic came with a set of Tein HA. it was so stiff that it almost shaked my lungs out when i went through rough surface.

first visual check found that the height of 4 suspensions are not well balanced. the rear right is particular half inch higher. <- this one is fine as i got the spanner to adjust it. second thing i found is, the adjusting knob on top of the dampers were gone. after some reading, its a click-assembly that allow to adjust 16 levels of stiffness. i checked and found that all dampers were set to full stiff (clockwise to snug). according to the information i got, everything should start from full stiff and adjust in anti-clockwise direction. there are 16 clicks to reach the full soft. things after 16 clicks are for servicing and should not be used on road or dampers will be damaged. since i dont have the click-assembly,if using a hex key, i cant know when i reach the full soft and might damage them. the Tein click-assembly is universal for all Tein products. i cant get the knob handy here. really appreciate if someone here is owner or worked on tein stuffs, can provide me some information. all i need is the arc of each click, or number of turns for 16 clicks, so i can work out the 16 levels with normal hex key. thank you very much!!

Honestly, nothing rides better than the OE suspension. I’m sure you can make what you have better, but it won’t be as good as the OE. I recommend you consider going to a salvage yard and seeing if you can pull a set of used OE struts and springs. I think you’ll be much better off in the end. Also, tires are important. If you have massive rims with rubber bands mounted to them that will also effect ride quality.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your suggestion Eric. Anyway in here, the price of parts from salvage yard doesnt really attractive. my car came at less than 1500 USD so i would like everything cheap and try not to replace anything unless they are broken :). mine is just with 15″ rim and 195/55 tyre so its ok.

btw, after the video, i played safe by assuming each step = 45 degree and turned 10 steps (front) and 6 steps (rear) from full stiff. it is much much better and its even a bit softer than expected. maybe my back just got trained with full stiff setting for few months.

really thanks to everyone here as i always got useful help here.

back to the first point, i tried to balance the suspension height with the spanner but i was only able to adjust 1 out of 4. the collars are just too tight to turn using spanner with hammer.. probably they already seized together due to its age. tried penetrating oil but simply didnt help..
what else i can try without breaking the dampers? was thinking about using a water pipe to extend the spanner but i simply cant easily get a pipe here..many thanks.

I would use an air hammer. Don’t use heat. You don’t want to heat struts because they can be damaged if you do. The can also explode on rare occasion. I would use an air hammer just like I do in this video.

Good luck and keep us posted.
