Direct Acting Mechanical Buckets. Actually lifters/followers.

Some companies have used these for awhile. Some companies (Ford) use them on some engines. The pros are obvious. Cheap. The cons are, difficult to check and even more difficult ($$$) to repair, although most engines I know of have no scheduled maintenance on them.

Fewer moving parts and more accurate.

I’ll give you the first but not the second.

Hydraulic lifter are continuously self adjusting. Most DAMB engines require period valve clearance checks and a complicated adjusting process.
