      Hello all,
What are the things you all look for in a daily driver, what do you daily drive?

I look for something that is fun to drive, reliable and can handle anything I throw at it. I drive a 98 dodge ram daily. I have two classic Chevys I’d rather keep pristine.

I need a truck for scrapping metal, hauling parts, going fishing and hunting, going offroad, and pulling stumps. Plus, trucks are the last bastion of the real steel frame.

Basic car. No – Power windows, Locks, cruise, etc. In other words fewer options means fewer things to fail cause problems and grief. Simple 4 cylinder engine with timing chain not belt driven cams. Single overhead cam is better. Lighter weight is better.

Mine is a 1999 Saturn 1.9L manual transmission AC. No frills. I did add the cruise from the salvage yard and had to have the PCM flashed to make it work. The car gets about 36 MPG on long commutes. 30 MPG around town.

And make sure it is very very common so there will be lots of salvage yard parts.

My main DD concern is how it handles inclement weather (rain/snow).
              The 3 major factors:
              1) Does it seal weather out well?
-rust holes, poorly sealing windows/frameless doors, missing/damaged body seals and grommets
              2) Does it make me feel comfortable in lousy weather?
-keeps windows unfogged, interior bits feel good when cold and in high humidity, heat/HVAC works good, windshield not too pitted
              3) Is it fun and stable to drive in inclement weather?
-You’re comfortable with how it handles low traction situations, you can see out of the windows well

That all adds up to how comfortably you can cruise in lousy weather. If you get snow where you are, good snow tires affect much of the aforementioned.

Bear in mind that I’m speaking from the experience of having a 2nd car for nice days and needing to have a normal car for everything else.

I miss my SC1. Obvious maintenance and the thing was a dynamo. Slow as a snail, but always started. Same as yours, bone stock except for AC which you don’t tend to find cars without. Everything was cheap too, tires, brakes, suspension. Oh so cheap.

My daily driver isn’t being driven anywhere at the moment as one of the seals puked in the turbo and nobody seems to want my money. The only response I got from a recycler couldn’t even tell me the mileage on the car because it wasn’t running, that’s confidence inspiring.
