Hey I recently swapped motors from a d15b which had its own issues (which are in my other posts)to a d16z6. After I swapped the z6 into the car and with the correct ecu I started the motor but only to hear what sounds like a knocking noise. I made sure the car had enough engine oil and coolant. I will try to post a video on here later or if not will post the video on my youtube account and will post the url here so you guys can look and here it. What is weird is that I drove the car and like the noise gets louder as I accelerate but at one point the noise went away. I checked the timing and its off a bit but I can not adjust it because I can not turn the dizzy the way I want it anymore. I recently bought a feeler gauge and going to do a valve adjustment and set the timing correctly (timing first though). The motor has no idling issues it stays at around 600-800. Does not fluctuate, when I was driving it around the block I felt the power difference compared to my d15b. Another thing that is weird is that the car does not overheat but I feel the heat of the motor and hoses get hot.

D16z6 info:
-Bought complete motor and tranny including dizzy, intake, sensors. (except for some hoses, I just swapped from my d15b.)
-Put new coolant in
-Did a oil change (Mobil 1 10W-40 fully synth as recommended by a lot of my friends who have z6’s).
-Did not replace water pump (was just wanting to put in motor to see how it runs).
-Will replace thermostat
-Timing is off but by a little bit. To give u a better idea the 3 lings III you use to align with the V looking thing the 3rd line III<---- is aligned with the V. -Car does not smoke or smell went a drive. -Idles great The Video is below of the noise im talking about... http://s589.photobucket.com/albums/ss331/209KINGOFCALI/?action=view&current=20130808_192210_zpsb36d4fde.mp4

Valve adjustment. Have you done a compression test.

Thanks for the reply. No I have not done a compression test running low on mula. Will do the timing and valve adjustment today to see if it goes away and hopefully it does because I was hoping I would use this motor to pass smog which is in about a month.

Your video wasn’t really long enough to really get a good listen to it but if the noise went away at one point it can’t be a rod. Maybe something rubbing in the bell housing?

Can anyone post step by step instructions on how to replace rod bearings while my engine is still in my car and what to look for while im down there. Preferably for Honda and if possible for a D16Z6. Or if anyone has a website or a video that would help me out then awesome.

Can’t find a video on how to do it. but this
might be the problem.

If that noise is a rod noise then a set of bearings is a waste of money. The crankshaft is probably scored and the rods big ends out of round.

So I dont think its a rod knocking, I grabbed a long metal tube and put it on the block from one side and the other side to my ear and I dont hear any knocking coming from the block, I put the end of the tube in the slave cylinder housing and I hear the knocking noise like crazy, if I go back towards the block it gets quiter almost goes away. So here is what I think it is, its either one of the bearings from the throw out, or flywheel, or the shaft bearing on the tranny or whatever it is called. A older gentleman stopped by and checked out my motor because he has the same one and had a rod knock in his and the first thing he says when I start the car is that my motor sounds good but the noise is coming from the tranny sides not the motor. He said that a rod knock would be a different noise.
