      Hello forum,

In my attempts to troubleshoot a front end vibration on my 90 Integra I found and replaced a lot of broken / worn suspension components, I am now faced with what’s hopefully the root cause of this vibration!

About 3 years ago I replaced the passenger cv axle with what I recall was probably a reman axle off ebay, everything was great up until about a year ago when a lingering front end vibration got worse, it shimmies the steering wheel and shakes on acceleration at highway speeds when passing. I’ve tried replacing wheels, tires, tie rods, balance and alignment with no success, recently even replaced the passenger wheep bearing (which I suspect the 3 year old axle to be defective and shook the bearing bad) but the vibration is worse than ever!

I’ve looked over and shook around both axles with nothing out of the ordinary, no torn boots, excessive play, and no clicking as others have said to listen for, the most I can hear is a groaning which I can now rule out the new wheel bearings, and of course the moderate shimmy/ shudder when accelerating and some while breaking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Regards,

Usually when the steering shakes without touching the brakes its tire balance.
It could also be cv axle. To rule out wheels try either another set of wheels if
you have them from another car or two spare tires in the front to rule out wheels and tires.

Im guessing you replaced wheep bearing=wheel bearing…try and see if you hear any noises take your car and lift it up and down on each shock and see if you hear it… then jack your car up and shake the each wheel left and right then up and down,, try spining it and see if that makes any diffrnt noises… you can also take your brakes out and see if like that brake indicator or shims are causing the problem even the celiper could be sticking or the I call them the caliber spring bolts… sorta dount full its the brakes but check them anyway so the inside and out side pad should have about the same wear in them

Alright, so that was a lot easier than I thought.

I lifted the car, put her in drive and the passenger wheel had a hard time turning, or was turning intermittently, to begin with (with no acceleration just in D) the passenger wheel wouldn’t even move while the driver wheel was spinning freely.

I’ve gone ahead and ordered a CV axle from A1 Auto, brand new. I don’t see myself ordering these parts re-manufactured in the future.

also check your brakes because if the brake is bad it could be sezed and not allowing your tire to spin…
to me it sounds more like the wheel bearings more the the CV because the cv unless it like broke off inside should be easy to spin
sounds almost like you have 2 things wrong… but then you take it apart you can check it better… Good luck
