I have seen many different answers on different Honda sites for the crankshaft pulley bolt torque. my Honda manual says 14 ft/lbs. I know this can’t be right (misprint) Is it supposed to be 140ft/lbs? What is the actual torque spec for this bolt?

On a Honda you are supposed to tighten the Crankshaft pulley bolt so tight that it requires you to jump up and down on a 14 foot cheater bar attached to a 3/4″ Drive breaker bar with 3 foot 3/4″ Drive extension resting on a 25 ton jack stand to break the bolt loose…Oh yeah, it must sound like a rifle shot going off when breaking….

Seriously, Sorry, I don’t know this, but I had to take a dig at a Honda crank bolt 🙂

I recently had a run in with that crank pulley bolt and was surprised that I was able to get it off. Granted, I had the pulley tool that fits in the hex cutout, but I was almost certain that my 1/2″ breaker and my extensions were just gonna snap in two. By the time I finally got that damn bolt off, there was like 45 degrees of deflection. I’m a big girl, but I needed a bunch of cheaters daisy chained together to get it out. Oddly enough, that was one of my first experiences of owning my Honda. I was certainly proud that I got it out, though!!! 🙂

Torque the bolt to 69 Nm (7.0 kg-m, 51 lb-ft) with a torque wrench and the socket, 19 mm (C). Do not use an impact wrench. If the pulley bolt or crankshaft are new, torque the bolt to 177 Nm (18.0 kg-m, 130 lb-ft), then remove the bolt and torque it to 69 Nm (7.0 kg-m, 51 lb-ft)
