I have been advised that the noise is probably the oil pump.

It really depends on the oil pump location and that would be a hard one to hear. I have never seen nor heard of a noise oil pump, unless its a dry sump one._x000D_

I think that oil pump is driven by the crank right behind the timing cover, not 100% sure though.

That’s exactly what would happen, in fact it’s the clearances between the bearings and the moving parts in the engine that create the oil pressure for the engine.
