After reading the crank no start help topic, I was wondering if a main relay failure would be common on a 2011 acura? Also, I read some where that there are two main relays on this model. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is the check engine light on? if so have the codes read and post them.
You will need to see whats missing fuel or spark. I believe its one main
relay that does two different things.

Turns out I needed a new battery. I checked battery voltage and measured 12 volts but the service adviser told me the battery should read closer to 14 volts; which doesn’t sound right to me, but the car is fixed with the new battery.

the voltage of a new battery should be 12.6V give or take a little, voltages of 13.5-14.5V are with the engine running and the alternator supplying a charge to the system. 14 volts is kind of high to be honest, if you want to test the condition of your battery the crank test is a good way to go.

the simple way is have a bud stand in front of your car, turn your high beams on, crank the engine over, if the lights dim a lot or go dark when your crank the engine over, it means that the battery is probably going dead and needs a charge and possibly replaced

if you have a voltmeter your voltage when cranking should not drop below 9.6V put a voltmeter on the battery and watch the voltage readings as a friend tries to start the car, when the car tries to start if battery voltage drops below 9.6V your battery probably needs charged or replaced.

also it is important to check all connections particularly at the battery, make sure there is no corrosion and connections are tight, also check your ground connections for tightness and corrosion, same with connections to starter.

ooh I forgot, a crank no start condition is typically caused buy a lack of spark, fuel, or compression, however low battery voltage can cause a crank no start condition IF the engine just cranks to slow too start. we have no engine lights, if the engine is cranking over fast enough and it isn’t starting, check this out.

I thought I would update this thread with the final outcome…….it was the battery. When I tested the voltage, it appeared to be in the normal range, but changing the battery solved this problem.

Main relay problems generally disappeared around 2001ish. That said, if the battery is low on that vehicle it will cause ALL kinds of issues, including the one you mentioned. Thanks for keeping us up to date and for using the ETCG forum.
