Yesterday I was in Sears wasting some time, and I found a set of tamper proof torx sockets on sale. I have been needing to pick up a set, and since its not something I use everyday I am fine with getting Craftsman and saving some serous money over a set off of the tool truck. When I got them home and opened up the package my initial reaction was wow, these sure aren’t as heavy as my Snap on torx, which is to be expected because they are about 1/8 the price. No biggie i thought but then in print so fine I almost had to squint to see it I read MADE IN CHINA! Really?? Now admittedly almost of my tools are Snap on, or Matco as I view craftsman to be more of a DIY tool than for professional use, SoI don’t know how long they have been doing this but if you are in the market for any craftsman tools you may want to keep this in mind as I am sure the Quality of the tools will suffer as it seems the company is riding on the name.

While I do not diagree making the tools here would help with sales i wouldn’t help enough to justify the cost unfortunately. What They should do is abandon making tools all together and have people that make stuff that is worth a darn and stamp it with the Craftsman name and give it that lifetime warranty. It is what every tool truck brand has been brought to with SO trying to hold out and losing.

I am all for usa made tools but, any more its fruitless because way too many people buy cheap.

I used to like Sears, now I hate it. I think their tools, for the most part suck now, and are overpriced. Sears, like radio shack will go away. Businesses that sell liquor have to have licenses to sell, i think businesses that sell tools should have to be licensed too, and tools should only really be sold off trucks putting scammers like Sears out of business.

My question to all of you that will buy tools only made in the USA is, does that only go for your tools but the other things you use as well?

I am one of those cheapskates to a point. If something is comparable and within 10% of what I can get the same quality tool for from elsewhere i will buy the USA one. Otherwise unfortunately due to student loans and other debt I am forced to buy cheap.

When it comes to tools I would love to buy the best of the best USA made only but, if I did that 3/4 of the tools I own wouldn’t be there and neither would my ability to do my job unfortunately.

My JD tractor is made here, my truck is made here etc. German made stuff is the only exception to my rule. I will buy German made. German made stuff is typically of great quality as well. The computer I am typing on is made in Japan….good luck finding any computer made in the USA or Germany. Other than that any part I buy for my truck is USA or German made. If I receive a part and it is not, I send it back. I always look at labels on everything.

I try very hard to buy American made in all purchases, it takes some effort but is do-able, not always convenient. Then there are some items for which it is just not possible, or too expensive for me to justify it, i.e. tool chests.

It’s when people don’t even make the effort or just go the cheapest route for no reason that is the problem.
