I have a Craftsman scan tool modle 20890 that I bought used. It is very simular to the innova scan tools. I did not get a serial cable with it to hook up to my computer. Does anyone have a cable they could test and post the wiring of on line. It has a nine pin on one end and a 25 pin on the other. I know that I will need a usb to serial converter to use it on most newer computers.
I can make a cable if I know the pinout.
      Thanks
      Bob

Sounds like a pretty standard cable. I use to have boxes of serial cables. Have you tried one, or what makes you think it’s different?

I have tried several cables and null modems. An engineer at work had a tester with lights for serial comm. It showed green/ red on different lines. He said it was some odd wiring different than normal.
When we pluggeg them together most of the lights went out. This guy works with these type things a lot and seems to know what he is doing.

Interesting. That’s a shame really. If you really have time to kill, you can get a BOB (http://www.amazon.com/RS232-DB25-BREAK-OUT-BOX-TESTER/dp/B005H46XS2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359555450&sr=8-1&keywords=breakout+box) and try to figure it out. Or buy a cable from craftsmen and map the pin out before you return it.

A guy at work claims his brother in law has a cable for my tool. If so he is supposed to bring it in so I can ohm it out. I hope he can produce it and it is the right one. If so I will post the pin out as I have looked around several forums for this info.
innove has the cable for around $28.00. I have everything to make serial cables at work as I work in an electrical shop.

Hi, Did you even figure this out? I have the same issue. Can easily make a cable but need to determine the pinout. Do you have it?
