So I decided to look for things to fix on my Jeep as does every XJ owner (It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand,) and to my surprise I found a crack in the exhaust manifold. I’m not really sure if it’s a huge deal but could anyone tell me the severity of this? Leave it alone or fix it? I mean I don’t really notice anything, I feel a ticking in the valve cover but other than that I don’t suspect a thing out of the ordinary. Do cracked exhaust manifolds have any tell tale symptoms?

Also, can anyone convince me why I should repair this? I’m not really sure what a cracked exhaust manifold really effects.

      Thanks guys 🙂

carbon monoxide coming into the cab.
if there is an o2 sensor near by it could
affect the operation of the o2 sensor.Which
will affect the air fuel mixture. But all that
aside. The carbon monoxide into the cab.You could
pass out and die.safety is number one.

My exaust manifold was cracked on my 1999 civic. I changed it because it was interfering with the O2 sensor and because I could smell the fumes inside my car.

Carbon monoxide could be an issue but I think what you’ll notice the most is crappy gas mileage due to the O2 sensor thinking you’re running lean. It’s also not good to run an engine rich for long periods of time. If you have access to a welder perhaps that could be a fix for you instead of replacing it.
