The CR-V started making a groaning noise last week. It only happens when there is no gas or brakes applied (freewhweeling). It is consitent with the road speed and at slow speeds it sounds like a groan that happens once during each revolution. When I accelerate or keep power to the wheels it is gone. Let off the pedal and it starts, hit the brakes and it goes away again.

Can anyone shed some light on what might be wrong

It is probably the wheel bearing hub assembly going bad. Hope this helps.

            Hi:

What’s the mileage on this CRV?

It has 214k on it. I replaced the wheel bearing on the drivers side about 2 yrs ago. It is definitly not the same noise. It is not constant. It only happens during a portion of each revolution of the half shafts.

Hold the phone. Replace the rear differential fluid with the PROPER fluid. I THINK it’s Honda double pump fluid but check with the Honda parts person to make sure that’s correct for your application. After you’ve done that report back and let us know if the noise is gone.
