I have a 2001 Honda CR-V due for a differential fluid change. The manual says it takes 1.1 quarts, but the fluid is only sold in 1 quart containers. Should I buy two quarts even though I don’t need .9 quarts of it, or would there be enough possibly left in the differential when I drain it that I’ll only need to put 1 quart in?

It’s like cooking supper for a big family … make sure you have more than not enough.

If you can get some from a store walking distance good… but usually the amount is usually right. If you have a transfer pump to do the job .. you actually don’t put your .9 quart all the way. If you just squeeze the bottle in as well. I would get 2 bottle, you can always get your money back.

The CRV is on the same chassis as my Element.

Would running it a tiny bit low hurt anything? Probably not. Would I chance it? Never.

Just buy two bottles. This fluid is not that expensive. You will have it for your next change too.

If you buy 2 bottles you’ll have enough for the next fluid change and probably the one after that. As stated in the video, that differential works based on the temperature of the fluid. That means that the level and type of fluid used is important to it’s operation.

Can the used fluid be dumped in with the used oil for recycling or should it be disposed of separately? If so, how?

You could ask the someone at where you drop your used oil. My gear oil goes right in with waste engine oil.
