So after reading a good format to put this information in I decided to rewrite this topic lol. I drive a 1997 chevy lumina automatic 140(ish)k miles. A couple years ago I took my car into the mechanic for a power steering issues. Well just today on the way to my mothers house I filled up with gas and drove out of the gas station and did a 145 degree turn while turning I romped on the gas by accident and because of the rain peeled out. After my car straightened out I noticed my steering was EXTREMELY stiff. I got to my mothers house and checked for any leaks of power steering nothing noticeable it was getting dark and had minimal light. Well after about 2 hours i went back out to the car and started it and heard a noise coming from the engine compartment of my car that did not sound good the steering was still extremely stiff. I turned the car off and leaving it at my moms house until tomorrow.

Now I am guessing this is 1 of two things because my power steering never actually “worked” to begin with cause of the whinnying.

Power steering pump COMPLETELY not working

      OR

Rack and Pinion though i am not sure on the rack and pinion option.

      Thoughts?

      SECOND car 97 cavalier

Can i check a 97 chevy cavalier the same way that eric did on his youtube video? I do not know much about the car other than it is a automatic 130k ish miles mechanic says there was a leak in the heater core. how would you be able to notice a leak in the heater core? wouldn’t leak into the car itself?

On the 97 chevy cavalier if you do not see a leak out side the car, check the carpet and under the floor mats for water. You can fill the cooling system and then use a radiator pressure gauge to pump up the cooling system then look for leaks. If it is the heater core you can bypass it by connecting the two heater hoses together till you can change the heater core.
