      Hello,
      -’99 Honda Civic
I had listened to my A/C compressor die a slow, loud death until the inevitable happened when it finally bit the bullet (days before I was set to replace it). No leaks in the system what-so-ever. I’ve purchased a new Denso compressor, condenser and receiver dryer with a vacuum pump along with manifold gauges. The new compressor comes pre-filled with oil. I’m experienced with draining the old one to see how much oil was in it and filling the new compressor with that amount. The question is, how much oil should be replaced to account for what is in the condenser and receiver dryer? I would hate for this shiny, expensive Denso unit to get oil-flogged or ridden dry. Thanks in advance.

you cant mesure the old because it is part of vapers and you wouldnt get the correct about and will burn up the new compressor… goto any auto part store and have them check what kind and how much to use… they will type in your can and tell you what you need… what kind of pag oil and what amount… also dont forget about the o-rings you should replace them and maybe the orfice tube… if you have shavings in the system might want to clean it out

PS make sure you use ac o-rings

If the compressor is precharged with oil No extra oil needed.

Before you do anything I suggest you flush the complete A/C system. Depending on how the compressor died there could be metal shavings and other bad stuff you don’t want those particles to kill the new compressor and clog the expansion valve.

In that case you would need to add suitable oil for the various A/C parts. I do recall there was a rough table somewhere that had rough amounts of oil that should be in certain components.

You’ll find the exact amounts in the FSM. These for example are for my 2002 Accord (PAG-46, oz) –

              -when replacing evaporator: 1 1/3
              – when replacing condenser: 5/6
              – when replacing a line or hose: 1/3
              – when replacing receiver/dryer: 1/3
              – for leakage repair: 5/6
              – compressor: depends on the amount of oil in the new one.
