So I just reached the 152k mark on mg corolla and I smelled some eggish smell when driving it yesterday I searched what it could be and it’s possibly my catlitic convertors fried cause when I rev it all the way up to test if there’s a blockage the exhaust pops or shoots flames I’m not sure what that means but I need some info. Also I was wondering what tyoe of spark plugs I should get for my 160k service in a few months or so. Let me know thanks

Make sure you use NGK spark plugs…

If you think you have an exhaust blockage, the easiest way to test is with a vacuum gauge… Eric has a video for this…

If you smell the egg smell in your exhaust, consider changing your gas station for a few re-fuelings… If after a couple of fill ups and it still persists, you may have an issue with your cat…

I believe that’s normal. It has to do with the type of fuel you’re using. Some fuels have a higher sulfur content and as a result, you get that rotten egg smell when it’s burned. It really shouldn’t be anything to be concerned about. You might try getting fuel at a different location to see if it goes away.

well a new problem occurred with the transmission this time tho it seems as if it doesn’t fully activate in first gear but all the other gears 2-4 work fine idk what the issue is it was throwing a code but that was P0420 which was a catalyist code it went a way yesterday so idk what is causing this as I had the reverse re fixed cause I got stuck in the snow about 2 weeks ago the trans was under warrenty as it had been replaced 21k miles ago but now its out of warrenty due to reverse not activating due to a forward drum not activating im not a expert in this field any info or knowledge in this area would be helpful im might have to get it fixed Monday but until then idk what to do.
              ps..

1st usally fully activates around 10-20 mph but before then it seems like the clutches or something wont grip.

It’s possible it was damaged when you got stuck. The next time that happens, don’t go from reverse to drive. Instead go from reverse to 1 or L. When you put the transmission in L it has an extra holding band that is stronger than the one way roller clutch that 1st gear normally uses. I suspect in your case the issue is a broken one way roller clutch. You can verify this by putting the trans in L and taking off from a dead stop. If it does this normally, then the one way roller clutch is the issue.

Good luck and keep us posted.

That is possibly correct cause my dad said in l or 1 on the gear lever it acts normal so I told my dad your theory and he says that’s correct I’ll keep updated it will go to the trans shop Monday
