I have a few cornwell tools. I think they are pretty good. higher qaulity then craftsman ( have lots of craftsman as well ) less expensive then ” the big 3 ” the cornwell dealer I used was a cool guy who came around every week. that make a difference in my book.
May 1, 2013 at 4:56 am #518689i just bought 15 pc racheting wrenches and a 30 led light i hope they hold up pertty good i will be using them every day. i work a monro muffler brake and service.
May 1, 2013 at 2:22 pm #518780Cornwell are darn good tools, just not well known. Their hard line (wrenches, sockets, ratchets, extensions, etc..) are still made in the USA up in Mogodore Ohio… Also, it is not a publicly traded company… It is still family owned.
This is a pretty cool video to watch about Cornwell tools and shows you how they make them!!… Makes you want to go buy some!!
MAC (Mostly Asian Crap)… Which is Headquartered in Columbus Ohio still makes their hard line in the USA as well, but I don’t care much for their sockets…. by the way, MAC is owned by Stanley they have shut down their Sabina, Ohio factory…… hence offshoring and their crappy second tier lines (Jesse James set…).
MATCO is based in Stow, Ohio and is owned by Danaher (which makes most all of Craftsman’s hard line, but some of the hard line are now being made in China)…
S-K, which was based in Chicago makes some Craftsman Professional hard line tools and is good USA made stuff.
When I lived down south, the best tool truck dealer I had was a Cornwell dealer… The Snap on guy was a very large D-Bag…
I may work on Asian cars, but I prefer my tools to be USA made….Just my 2 cents…
May 1, 2013 at 7:46 pm #518841Cornwall are great, I also like Stanley, and snap on for hard line tools. Stanley for hammers and ratchets, Cornwall for fixed open ended, and Snap on for closed wratcheting wrenches. Craftsmen for everything else and only because Sears is closer and cheaper then anything else around here unless you want to go dirt cheap.
I think every brand has its lil jewel to offer but Cornwall my word never thought anyone else even knew of them.lol My set came to me from my dad for petes sake otherwise I would not of known of them either. I have to say I have busted some heads off of bolts with mine and the set still looks like it was just bought yesterday.lol

May 5, 2013 at 1:05 pm #519626If you’ve got a few thousand dollars to throw away, yes get them. Otherwise, get some tools that are priced for most planet earth folks. I’m not a professional and have never owned Cornwell but if Craftsman will do the job, why pay 10 times the amount for a wrench? Just my opinion.
If you buy your tools from a guy that owns a “tool area franchise” or makes his money off commission on selling you tools, I’d look the other way unless maybe you work for a Mercedes shop or something.
May 13, 2013 at 8:05 pm #521573Problem with the “GO cheap” theory is when you take a wrench to try and bust a nut loose and end up striping either the bolt, or the wrench itself. Either because the wrench was to soft and slipped on the bolt thus rounding it, or vise versa. Only time I ever say “yeah go cheap” is if all your using your tools on is house hold items like building a desk..etc. But when working on vehicles having a bolt round off on ya that is tucked up under the wheel well and was a pain to get to even under the best circumstances..aint no fun! I say go expencive and best of all you never have to buy that tool again, I have had a few of my snap ons replaced free of charge because they just plum wore out…life time warrantee? Yes, lifetime working product? Not when your three hundred pound buddy stands on one to bust something loose.LOL
October 21, 2013 at 1:06 pm #556423i have a cornwell soft handle, flex head, 72 tooth 3/8 drive ratchet and i love better than my old snap on ratchet witch is a piece of crap.
October 26, 2013 at 4:56 am #557217I was set for tools when the Cornwell truck started stopping at the shop but I have been buying tools that I dont necessarily need but makes the odd job easier on my blood pressure. So far all the Cornwell branded tools that I have bought have been good.
