      Hey all,

I’m looking to purchase a master cooling system pressure tester, and it seems difficult to find a good (and mostly complete) set. I’m thinking about getting this astro pneumatic set on amazon:

      http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042KOK28/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1X4NGBAXHIBR0&coliid=I37XEXYWX50RJB

It seems like there is a lot of crap on amazon (based on the reviews), and this astro set is around the top of my affordable price range. I’d love to hear advice from you guys as to what has worked well for you all. My price range tops out at around $250 though, so please keep that in mind.

      Thank you!

My one co-worker had an astro tools 1/4″ air ratchet the thing was a beast. I have also seen their cut-off tools work insanely well. The brand itself seems to be good have no clue about warranty though.

Having an AirLift setup like that is exactly what I plan on building for myself. I am in the diesel world it makes it a lil more costly for tools and such. That tool is setup almost identically to what I plan on building so I would say it is good.

The snap on set I have with the base 3-4 adapters will cover most domestic and Asian models. Unless your working on euro stuff a lot. But that kit alone is 220 off the truck. Both snappy and matco are rebranded stant pressure testers though.

Warning: I am not a professional technician, just a DIYer

I just used the Powerbuilt set that I loaned from advance auto (link ). Looks a lot like the one you are looking at on Amazon.

I only used one adaptor and it worked well for me. Provided good pressure (the FSM for my vehicle says to test at 23 PSI, highest I’ve seen ever). Seemed pretty solid, but I can’t attest to it’s durability.

I did a lot of looking for a good cooling system tester and settled on this finally.

Auto Cooling System Radiator Color Cap Pressure Tester Kit Pump Gauge Adapter HD

              http://www.amazon.com/ARKSEN%C2%A9-Radiator-Pressure-Pressurizing-Universal/dp/B00EHYRQB6/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449533605&sr=8-3-fkmr1&keywords=Auto+Cooling+System+Radiator+Color+Cap+Pressure+Tester+Kit+Pump+Gauge+Adapter

There are some different brands out there but they are all Chinese like everything else. I was actually very happy with the quality. All the caps are aluminum and even the plastic looking ones are metal inside. They just feel heavy duty. Also this set is a lot less expensive.

It looks like that Astro set has the vacuum filler which is cool, but you can also do that with the set I linked above. I take a vinyl hose with a shut off on it, force it onto whatever cap I’m using, then use a vacuum pump to pull vacuum, shut off the valve, take the hose off the pump and put it into the coolant…works like a charm.

I’m not saying the set above is better, but IMHO it’s a really good option if you want to save some money.

                I purchased the
Redline Detection 95-0700 SmartFit kit to use on my bmw. After I realized you have to get it real tight… it worked fantastic

I like the stant tester and adapters, but it seems impossible to find a complete set of adapters to cover as many vehicles as possible. I think I’m going to go with the Astro Pneumatic set I posted about, but that’s a few weeks off right now.

                  Thank you for the opinions!
