What parts of the cooling system did you upgrade?

Also, were you having cooling system problems before the upgrade?

Radiator, Cooling fan, relay/wiring as seen in this thread http://www.ericthecarguy.com/kunena/2-General-Discussion/51784-95-mustang-coolin-system-upgrade-question?start=10#102448

And yes I did have issues with the cooling before I had issues with the fan kicking on,

after the upgrade the cooling system was working sweet for a half hour drive to the bank to cash my check and like 20 mins on the way back, then it started overheating and that was it, I had to drive a 1/4 mile and shut the car down over and over inching my way home

Did you purge the air from the system after your upgrades? If not that could be the issue.

Well I had a shop do the wiring, well they actually talked me in to getting rid of the 14″ Mishimoto slim fan for the dual fan from Summit Racing, and they told me they burped the system, told me to keep an eye on it if there is a little air left in the system just to add colling to the overflow if its low.

But never told me it would overheat that will make me have to inch my way home a 1/4 mile at a time

I have 2 question on this.

                    1. If there is air in the system, can you drive it for about 1 hour fine with no issues before you start having issues, that’s what happened in my case.

                    2. I’m starting to think I may have a headgasket issue, but no symptoms cooling is a beautiful green, does not smell like gas, car does not smoke, the car runs beautiful the only issue I am having is the cooling system.

But you may have a better idea about the 95 Ford Mustangs with the 3.8 v6 headgasket issues with the symptoms they have.

There is no definitive way to say symptoms start this way or that way with air in the system. Unfortunately air in the system normally causes slow overheat, fast overheat, erratic temps, etc. Cooling symptoms hate air. I think it would be worth a shot to bleed it out, its easy, its fast, and you know the system was open so there is a good chance of it happening.

As far as a head issue, the only way to make sure is to do a block test. Don’t think or assume anything. Gather evidence and then come to a conclusion.

P.S. Just because your cap is new doesn’t mean it’s not defective. Your showing symptoms of a bad cap, me personally I think it might be air, but a cap test is easy so id’e check it too.

Ok cool thanks, I did notice that the shop gave me a new cap, its not the Mishimoto cap that the radiator came with so I will have the shop test that Monday.

I googled this issue and must that had this problem that I am seeming to have had said they didn’t know they had a head gasket problem till they took off the heads, they said it passed all tests and was not having symptoms of a headgasket issue but took the heads off and found the leak

                        any thoughts on that?

very very unlikely, If you have a head issue 99% of the time it will fail a block test.

I did have a problem with my heat also, not all the time some times it blows hot and some time cold, with the above problems I am having, can it be just a clog heater core?

Also when I first noticed that, first thing I did was replace the thermostat and when I went to take the old one out, yeah she didn’t have a thermostat in, there is one now but could there be any damage that can happen as a result of not having a thermostat for a period of time?

                              1. No heat can be a clogged heater core. absolutely. Also air in the system can cause this. I’de take off your heater core hoses and blow air through one side of it. Eric has a great video on this.

                              2. Personally no thermostat i say no. No damage will happen, the engine will struggle to get to operating temp. which will cause the engine to be less efficient though.

                              3. Make sure your thermostat has the spring toward the block. Other way around and you will have a restriction.

As stated in the article I posted for you, air in the cooling system is the #1 cause of overheating after cooling system service. It can cause an intermittent overheat due to the air pocket moving through the system.

I wouldn’t go to the head gasket just yet as you have no evidence other than hearsay that was posted on the internet. You can test for combustion gas in the cooling to at least gather some evidence to support that theory. It may or may not show up positive, but at least you’ll have done the test. Once again, information and videos on doing that are in the article I posted for you.
