i just topped off my radiator coolant and the reservoir box. Do i need to worry about air going into the system? Do i need to bleed some coolant and get the air out?

Or its fine since i just topped it off, i didn’t drain and refill.

oil changed. no repairs done do the cooling system since i bought it 2 years ago.
Sometimes the fans keep working after turning the car off.

      Thanks.

Year, make, model and mileage please…and recent history of any repairs to the cooling system (ie recently replaced hoses, thermostats etc)

You only need to worry about purging air from the cooling system when you make repairs/replace cooling system components, have hotter than normal running temperature on the temp guage or uneven heat (luke warm or hot then cold) coming out of the vents.

You report 200K mi. on this vehicle. Do you know if the water pump had been replaced with the timing belt at the recommended service interval? Not sure what that interval (90-110K mi?) is for the 2003 Honda Accord but most modern water pumps are only designed to last 150K mi.

I would be more concerned with why you had to top it off. Has it just been a long time since it was checked? Or did it lose the coolant fairly recently, like within the last week or so? Keep an eye on coolant level. If you have to top off again fairly soon, you may have a small leak or need a new pressure cap.

i just haven’t looked into the coolant since i bought it 2 years ago. The cooling fans were still on after turning the car off, so i thought it was a sign of some over heating. I added some water into the reservoir and that kind of stopped the fan being on after turning engine off. So i thought it was low on coolant and it was, so topped it off. I will keep an eye on it. But the car temperature gauge was still in its usual place.

I haven’t had a Honda is a long time, but I’m 99.5% sure that Hondas, along with other import manufactures, it is completely normal for the fans to stay on a bit after the vehicle is shut off. If I recall I even remember stickers saying “CAUTION – fan may turn on when vehicle is off”.

Bleeding air out is fairly easy. Usually there is a bleeder valve that you open and let the air bubbles out. But unless you are overheating, you most likely don’t have to worry about it.
