So as some of you may know, I just got done replacing the evaporator core in my 1994 k1500. You have to pull the entire dash out to replace this. I got everything back together and now my coolant temperature gauge is pegged all the way up and the check gauges light is on. This is the switch located in between two spark plugs on the DS of the truck. It is the single wire one not the two wire.
This problem wasn’t happening when I had the dash sitting in place but not bolted in. So I can only assume that when I bolted down the dash or something that this wire got pinched and grounded out. I did try disconnecting the pigtail at the sensor at the gauge still stays pegged all the way up so it’s definitely not the switch itself.
Looking at the wiring diagram that I attached (I circle the wire in question) it appears that the wire only goes from the switch to the back of the instrument panel cluster. Since all the other gauges are reading correctly, am I right to assume that somewhere in between the switch and the instrument cluster, that the wire is pinched and grounding out?
If this wire only goes from the switch, to the gauges, I also assume that I can just splice in a new wire from the switch to the gauge connection? (that is if, I can’t find the problem)
Also lastly, what do the letters mean on the gauge cluster diagram? The wire in question is green but has an “R” at the connector. What does this mean and how do I determine if the wire I am after is on the top or bottom of this instrument panel connector?
Thanks for all the help guys.
