Hello guy’s i’m working on a 98 mercury grand marquis 4.6 liter engine I went to change the plugs out and found cylinder #3, 6, 7 were soaked in antifreeze after i pulled the cop out. Amazingly enough the car was not misfiring but this is still a problem. I have found that ford put on a plastic intake on these motors and within time they would crack causing this problem. You anyone agree that most likely the problem is a broken intake gasket around these cylinders cauing coolant to enter the spark plug wells?

two possibilities on this vehicle.Intake gasket and the t-stat gasket.
pressure test the cooling system with a tester.

ok thanks college man these intakes are known for cracking ford redid the intake to a aluminum crossover that has corrected the problem. Either way i’m gonna replace the intake because it is a known problem for these motors I believe because it is only affecting certain cylinders that it has to be the gasket.

            I would

The 2nd place the intakes loved cracking is directly in the center behind the alternator. When they do they usually flood the alternator with coolant resulting in needing a new intake and alternator.

Those cars are known for the heater hoses (Quick Connects) leaking slightly. The coolant drips down on the top of the engine on the passenger side and runs down into the plug wells. Take a close look.

They are known for intake manifolds leaking too but the usually leak at the front behind the alternator.

Oh man that right, I forgot about the quick connector issues with that engine. Almost as bad as the 5.7/4.3 Gm quick connector problems.
