She’s a 1999 Honda CRV with the 2.0 liter 4-banger. I’ve been fighting coolant leaks almost from new. Cracked radiator. Blown top rad hose. Blown bypass hose. And now another leak.

When parked, she’ll leave a 4 to 6 inch diameter wet spot on the driveway just behind and at the left edge of the oil pan. There’s a bit of coolant plumbing behind the engine. It’s hard to see without removing that big plenum, but what I can see looks dry and clean.

I know there are some weep holes in the coolant pump, but where does the weep go? Are there some channels or tubes in that timing cover. Or does in just make a great big coolant mess in the timing belt area?

But I don’t know if it is the pump weeping. It’s some work to replace the coolant pump, so I don’t want to do it without confirming that it is the problem.

Any advice will be appreciated. I’d like to get another 3 years out of this jalopy.

Weep holes are usually inline with the water pump center line under the manifold. I have had some success using a digital camera to take pictures where I can’t get my eyeball. Mine has a closeup setting so it will focus at close range.

          Thanks Jotmon1.

I’ve got a couple of cameras the do macro imaging.

If I can get anything instructive, I’ll post them in this thread.

I own vehicle Ford and there was also the same problem suffered by you. I got it checked it from mechanics but they failed to tell me the problem accurately. I was not finding any Auto repair shop near my area. I visited online and came in contact with https://www.yourmechanic.com. I studied the whole site and found that their work area is vast and they repair numerous branded cars and my vehicle is also included in the concerned list. I contacted them on phone and their mechanic was at our doors within in 30 minutes. He inspected the car and told that there is leakage in coolant box. He changed it and the problem was recitified.

              Thanks guys.

I tried a few macro shots with my iphone but they’re just a mess. Another try with a different camera might be worthwhile.

And I’ll explore the yourmechanic site a bit too.

As far as I can tell, my CRV’s water pump just weeps right into the timing belt area, and f the weep is a stream, the coolant dribbles out the bottom of the cover.

I don’t hear any bearing problems in the pump area. The the seals could fail before the bearings in the pump.
