Cold start problem

Hi i have a skoda felicia with a 1.3l engine 1999 , its got a carburetor, it is starting really rich at cold startup and blows black smoke for about 1 minute then it runs amazing. Fast idle is set at 1800 rpm. Automatic choke is set at the alignment mark in the housing, choke pull off holds vacuum when i suck on the tube, but at startup the choke butterfly is not opening enough ? Could this be the pull off to blame ?

see if this article helps. You may need to clean up the carb with carb spray.

This is at startup, and i alreasy cleaned the carb recently

I understand, But if thing are sticky and gummy they won’t move well. Just trying to cover the bases.

Thanks for the reply, im thinking its the pull down unit because last day i started the car up and the choke flap didnt open or if anything it barely moved

I would think thats a good starting point. If the choke plate did not move then thats
an issue right there.

Ill buy a new choke pull off, do you know what adjustments should i make to the pull off when it arrives ? I dont know the exact clearances that it should have

The odd thing is that when I suck on the pull off tube the choke flap opens but still it only opens like 1mm

Before you buy any parts the link I first posted has adjustments in it. I would
try adjustments first.

Ok I will try, but I found a spare pull off on my shelf 🙂 will replace it then update on the result

Ok I replaced the pull off the engine started normally, no rough running, I’m saying it is fixed but I will need to adjust it to the exact specs
