Code P0455

Hello all,

Got a 2000 VW cabrio that keeps popping the CEL on for a P0455 code, “Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)”. I am not sure exactly what this means, the only thing I have tried is replacing the gas cap which obviously has not solved the problem. Any ideas on what I should be looking for? Is this some kind of vacuum leak and if so where do I look? Thanks.

something is leaking in the evap system.do a visual
of the hoses and canister.look for cracks or splits
in the tubing.

A visual inspection is a good start but with evap leaks I think a ‘nasal’ inspection might be more appropriate. Since you have a ‘large’ leak you may be able to smell it before you see it. Check all the hoses and pipes near the gas tank and also the ones leading up to the engine compartment.

The best way to find those leaks is with a smoke machine if a visual inspect yields no results.
