Wife’s ’07 Aveo. (yes, poor Wife. She picked it.)

When I replaced the clutch I found the pressure plate had broken into 8 pieces. pieces also broke off “nose” of starter motor.

Unless she is leading a secret life as a street racer in an Aveo, I don’t see how this happened. Haven’t seen this kind of failure in a street car. Any ideas? Tx…

Riding the clutch will do it. People get in the habit of using it as a foot rest.

I see Honda clutches fall apart like that all the time. Springs falling out mostly. No clear cause other than perhaps a design issue.

In situations like this, especially with a spouse, it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie if you catch my drift. Pointing fingers won’t do much good. Besides, if it was the result of a driver issue, I’m sure she’s aware and doesn’t want to go through the same thing again.

Very wise. Didn’t know THAT side of you, Eric.

Hey, OP, maybe toss in a small turbo? Besides, Aveos basically being a Suzuki Areo (f-rs even saved on name, changing only ONE letter) should be quite a decent car.

Ukrkoz, that car would be lucky to be a rebadged Aerio. The Aveo is a Daewoo. If you look around under it you’ll start seeing the GMDAT logo all over the place.

General Motors Daewoo Auto and Technology corp.

Daewoo made cars out of parts that failed on a normal basis when they were used as designed, plain and simple. When the brand died early before GM had made enough money off the venture, they continued to sell them as Suzukis and Chevys. I had the pleasure of working at a Suzuki dealer for a few years in the heyday of the Forenza/Reno/Verona which were their GMDAT disasters. They broke and broke and broke and I made so much money off of them.

I’m not contradicting anything said here thus far, all wise words. I just wanted to point out that of all the cars driving around, that one is more likely to have a quality/defect type of failure that maybe “shouldn’t” have happened. If the car has lasted this long though, no reason to be afraid of it now. It seems to be one of the survivors. I can say though that the Aveo seems to be better quality than all previous GMDATs but it’s still part of the family.

No turbo for wife. If she goes another month without a speeding ticket I’ll hook up another spark plug. 🙂

khool. So she’ll have FOUR plugs on a three cylinder engine? way khool.

Fopeano, it sounds like you have worked on this type of vehicle a bunch and know alot about them. How do you think the Aveo engine would do with a shot of Nitrous ? 150 dry possibly ? Maybe slicks on the front ? Give me your honest opinion.

No way the stock fuel injection will be able to fuel a 150 shot. However, I’ve never even heard of an engine in this family actually blowing up. Timing belts and headgaskets are weak points, but the headgasket corrodes over time due to a coolant problem, I’ve never seen one blow due to cylinder pressure. The transmissions are also on the cheap/frail side so the slicks will really stress the driveline and even put more stress on the engine during said pull.

All that said, I would say a 150 wet or driect-port shot may be survived just fine. If it was me, I’d go wet on the stock tires and do rolling burnouts with it.
