I have a 2001 Toyota Sienna with about 180 000 km’s on it. I’ve noticed recently when you wiggle the steering wheel back and forth from center there’s a knocking noise (seems to only happen on the left side). I’ve checked all components (ball joints, tie rods etc.) and everything seems fine and there is no play in them. I also can’t seem to re create the send when the wheels are off of the ground. A friend of mine who is a mechanic said that it could just be play in the steering rack. I want to fix it mainly because there wasn’t a noise like that from the factory therefore something is probably wrong. I just don’t know what it is.
