I’m not an advocate of cleaning engine bays. I’ve had too many vehicles come in that didn’t run, or didn’t run well after an engine cleaning. Therefore I don’t recommend the practice. I’m not saying that those that clean their engine bays are doing it wrong, it’s just not something I recommend.

Wetting electrical and electronic components is no good. Using a
Pressure washer is even worse(I’ve seen some people do this). Just asking for trouble if you ask me.

If it’s some sort of show car then the best way to clean components is to remove them and clean individually using the correct technique for each component. Aiming a hose or pressure washer in an engine bay is asking for trouble.

If it’s just a typical runaround then why would you want the engine bay clean?
IMO having a layer of grease on an engine and other parts is better than having them all shiny and new looking. I certainly wouldn’t buy a used car with a clean engine bay, tells me the seller is hiding something

Hello Tyler. I guess since I wasn’t responding to your mewing on Facebook you decided to come here and insult me.

                It was nice knowing you.

Just on cleaning your engine bay, I had a horrible experience doing this. I bought a car and every time after I drove it there was a smell of old burning oil which I hated. So I thought that I would clean the engine bay and give the car some love it deserved!!

Well what a mistake that was, I did cover everything electronic component I could see with plastic bags and then I put degreaser all over the block and then hosed it off with water……the engine bay looked a million bucks, then I went to move the car….no go. I checked every electrical connection there was and still nothing, then I had a look at the ignition system. There was no spark. Little did I know that I had not covered the coil…(I was still pretty new at auto work back then) and I had some how got water in it. So after a trip to the shop and $80 later I had a new coil and a starting car…for 4 minutes. I was driving down the road feeling very happy with myself that I fixed this problem then the car just died. So I pulled over and check the coil which I had just installed and everything looked fine, I checked it had spark and it did. So then I looked at the fuel system, there was not fuel getting to the injectors, why?? Well my fuel pump had decided that it had enough of working and so stop, 4 minutes after I had fixed the initial problem with the coil. I know that the fuel pump would have gone wether or not I had cleaned the engine bay but still, straight after the ignition system was fixed!!!!

Anyways sorry to go on there, Just thought I would share some of my experience cleaning engine bays!!

I have never cleaned another engine bay to this day…. 🙂
