cleaning question

I’m not.sure if this is the right place to ask this. I was just wondering what parts of the engine and brakes can you use brake cleaner on. I was wanting to clean up my engine a little bit. Just has grime all over it

ive used it on valve covers. I use it on overflow tanks to get rid of grime and dirt. I also use it after an oil change by the filter and if I spill some oil. When it comes to fuse covers and battery’s I use a damp rag with a little degreaser.

I just bought some Throttle Body cleaner when I had to replace my Thermostat. I used it on the engine and throttle body Cleans engines well it does not clean caked on stuff that well i have dirt and grim all over the outside of my Throttle Body and not a thing i do takes that off not even goo gone.

Brake clean is good anywhere except on some painted surfaces.

Not too familiar with brake cleaner on other parts but I’ve seen other guys use kerosene in a spray bottle to clean their engine with (spray on and spray off with a water hose). Just consider that many cleaners, sprays, etc., are flammable and to be used with care. I personally am not a fan of cleaning the “engine,” unless of course you have a show car and go to car shows and whatnot. No matter, I would always use any substance on a cold engine to minimize a fire hazard and wash it off good before starting.
