I’ve got a 2000 Honda Civic that I wanted to clay bar to get some dirt and other contaminates off without scuffing and removing too much of my clear coat. I do understand that all different manufactures paints are different.

So I was wondering if anyone has tried it and had good luck with it.

      Thanks

I’ve used a clay bar kit on my 03 Accord EXV6 Sedan and I have to say its one of the Best paint care products I have ever used. its makes the paint sooo smooth and takes the roughness out of paint if you have any. The kit was from Meguiar’s. I don’t think it well damage clear coat. Unless its peeling off then it is a possibly it well remove the clear coat.

I’ve used both the Mother’s and Meguiar’s clay kits on Honda paint without any issue – i.e. when using plenty of quick detailer as a lubricant, folding the clay frequently, etc. They seem to leave a slight residue, but that can be removed during the polishing step or a quick wash.

An aggressive grade of clay used by professional detailers may leave marring. However, the over-the-counter kits sold at autoparts stores are a fine clay and should not mar the surface. I don’t think that clay can remove clear coat, unlike an aggressive polish and a rotary polisher.

Great! Thanks for the input. I just did a standard wash and wax for now, but after the pollen is done (mid summer) I might re-wash try this and re-wax.

As long as you use the fine grade, you should be fine. I believe most consumer clays are fine grade.

I have a black Acura and I saw no issues as long as you do not get too aggressive. Make sure you use plenty of clay lubricant. If you have never clayed your car before, for some like the hood, I would divide it into minimum of 4 sections and after each section, fold over the clay to expose a clean side and move on to the next. In addition, to my knowledge, clay does not remove clear coat. However, it does have the potential to remove wax so always wax after claying.
