Civic- Water In Oil

Hey, I used Eric’s technique for decarbonizing an engine with water. I did this on my 97 Civic, and all was fine. I checked my oil afterwards and it was milky and there were bubbles on the dip stick. I also had one of those valve cover breather filters in place of the hose from the VC to the intake, and steam was coming out.

What would cause this? Valve seals? I’m thinking blow-by from the piston rings. Would water in the oil suggest excessive blow-by? Thanks!

Don’t think you could of put enough water in the intake to do that. Sounds like you have a leaky head gasket. Start with a compression and leak down test.

If you had steam and water in oil IMMEDIATELY after hydraulic cleaning – as that’s what it is, doing it with water – you DO have blow by and water, compressed in CCs, went into crankcase.
Before freaking out, I’d have changed oil with some cheapo one from WMart and see what happens.
Otherwise, head gasket had pin hole in it and now that you cleaned CCs, it opened and coolant seeps into oil.
