I have gone through the owners manual and could not find a maintenance schedule for a manual transmission fluid change or inspection.
      Honda Civic 05 EXI.
      Transmission 5 speed manual

My gears are starting to grind a bit although im a smooth driver.
Should i get a fluid flush? My car has probably had it once before.

Also if yes, can i use regular engine oil?
If no, which ones should i use?

      Thanks!

Honda recommends every 30,000 fluid change. It should take 2 quarts
of genuine Honda Manual trans fluid only.

So here’s a link for the owners manual for your car

I think the recommended change interval for a manual transmission under severe conditions is every 60k miles (based on the above owners manual). You can use regular motor oil based on the manual, but they recommend against it (as it won’t have the additive package you need in the transmisison) – honda makes manual transmission fluid you could use, or a better option might be to use RedLine MTL – I used that in my old Corolla, and it was great! (I can’t use it in my Subaru as it requires a GL-5 rated gear oil, so I use Motul Gear 300). Another gear oil which gets very positive reviews for manual transmissions is Penzoil Synchromesh.

poor shift quality/grinding could be that the fluid is shearing down, etc. and needs to be replaced, but could also be a sign of worn synchronizers, in which case new fluid will help, but it can’t fix something that’s worn out. If the synchros are going, the oils I mentioned above – Penzoil Synchromesh and Redline MTL – will help with that. If they are really bad, something like Redline Shockproof gear oils might help.

Thank you for the reply. Very helpful.

I have actually changed my MTF, used the genuine Honda MTF. Didn’t really notice a difference, infact it seems to be grinding much more now. ?

It seems you are right and the syncros are failing. 🙁
Will zinc or some other additives like PTFE help? I really can’t have the transmission opened up. Also the mechanics here are extremely uneducated and its usually better to have parts replaced than repaired over here.

Also is this normal for a 200,000 km (125000 miles) driven car? Or have the previous owners been negligent?

            Thanks again.

If your grinding going into gear there is no mechanic in a can additive that will help.
As for the mileage It depends on how its been driven.
