      Hi

I have a 2001 Honda civic AMT which starts then within 5 seconds stalls and will then start right up again no problem. It doesn’t happen all the time and no particular pattern, can happen when engine is cold or hot. I have recently noticed my engine cranks few times more before it actually runs as well. this problem developed about 1 week ago.

      Things i have checked
      1) fuel pump comes on when key is in ON position
      2) all plugs have spark
      3) all plugs are in good shape
      4) No check engine light
      5) ignition system switch is okay ( i have rattled my key around)
      6) can not find any vacuum leaks
      7) cleaned out battery terminals

Check fuel injectors and fuel pressure. Also check the air intake.

It’s possible that the throttle body and IAC control could use a good cleaning. That’s where I would start.

I like the idea of cleaning the IAC for starters. If the IAC is not functioning properly it can cause a stall like that. The other common issue that can cause that is an ignition switch problem which you say you’ve already covered. Also a good idea to check the basics as covered in this article.

Good luck and keep us posted.

              Hey guys

Took out the throttle body and cleaned it. Also took off the IAC and cleaned it out with Carb cleaner, I included some pictures of it before cleaning it out. It was pretty bad, so far it hasn’t stalled on start but its only been a few hours. Car seems to shake less on idle as well.

That’s nothing. You should have seen IACV on my 91 Civic. White slime crust built up everywhere.

That’s great news. I’m happy to hear that you’ve made progress. Keep us posted if things change.
