I have searched a lot of threads and have not come across this problem mentioned by anyone else. I have 93 Civic DX 1.5. Car starts fine fast idles until warm and runs smooth in P or N. As soon as I put it gear it sputters and wants to die until I barely touch the gas and everything is fine. Car drives fine, idles normal when sitting in gear in traffic ect. Just wants to die everytime I shift it in to gear from P or N until I give it a touch on the pedal, Any ideas?

I would check the obvious first such as plugs and wires. But from what you are describing could be a clogged EGR. Are you using NGK plugs?

I am actually using the OE Denso plugs. I haven’t pulled them yet but they have less than 5k on them. Haven’t checked EGR. Any tests for that? Does the DX model with a D15B7 have an EGR Valve?

I would still look at them. Yes, you should have an EGR valve and I don’t know of any good test other than reading codes that will usually be tripped by a system that is gummed up. It could be so many things though.

              1. coil
              2. fuel pump/filter
              3. distributor
              4. plugs
              5. wires
              6. EGR
              7. bad gas

The list goes on and on. Eliminate the cheap easy things, and you may want to invest in an OBII scanner. They are not terribly expensive. This way you don’t have to deal with counting light flashes and get a readout on the fly when there is a problem.

Ok, bought some new NGK V Power plugs and a new fuel filter and will install them tomorrow. Air filter is clean and there are no CEL codes.

Thanks College Man, I’ve gone through all these items. Nothing seems to really apply to the problem I am having. It’s not really an idle issue. It’s more of a sputtering issue when first placed in D from P.

                    Check your TPS signal.
