I have civic 05 which does not overheat and never had, replaced radiator cap twice, last once was about month ago together with thermostat. Driving city I have no overspray from coolant on engine but it does it driving on high way.

On city driving my coolant overflow/reservoir is at its normal level when coming back from highway it is full and spraying out of the reservoir.

No white smoke and no coolant in oil

      any suggestions?

May try starting with this. If you have anymore clues as you go along, please post back.

Maybe the new rad cap is faulty. It happens, especially with economy parts.

Evil-i is right about the rad cap. If it isn’t that, though, it could be a clogged radiator. Remote, but possible. And it would explain why it overheats on the highway and not around town.

I agree with the others. If you’re up there in miles, the rad could be clogged. Make sure to only use a genuine Honda rad cap.

The car does not overheat at all and never has. Since I started this thread I just now got radiator pressure tester., had it on radiator for about 25 min (pumped to 15 psi) and it lost maybe 0.01 psi so I don’t think I have a leak anywhere but possibly another bad radiator cap ?

Any other brand I can get instead of local auto parts stores ?

                Any suggestions ?

I think it’s the head gasket. Very common with this model but the symptoms show up only when the engine is hot under load.

I will stop by a dealer to see if they gave rad. Cap. , I was thinking about head gasket as well but there are no other symptoms.

I had a vehicle that would always overheat during highway driving 45 mph plus. One night the radiator failed and had to be replaced after spraying coolant everywhere. After the replacement the truck never overheated again, including a 500 mile interstate drive in one day.

                        OK,

I got new Radiator Cap from the Dealer and it is still doing it. So I got Compression tester from Autozone and the readings are:

                        1: 185
                        2: 180
                        3: 185
                        4: 190

( I let the engine rotate 4 times per each cylinder)

These numbers are too high as factory specs shows 135 but not too much within range +/- of 28psi… But I’m guessing piston rings might be on its way.

But I’m still puzzled why is the coolant running out.

                        One more thing..

When I warmed up the car to the running temp before doing this test ( per service manual) I left the radiator cap off and when warmed up I stepped on gas pedal and the coolant started bubbling/foaming and running out.

I have had this car since it had 17 miles on it.. and it has never overheated.

                        Any suggestions ?
