Hey eric..i have a 1996 chevy s10 and it always ran very well..has 278000 miles still was running strong..anyway it started leaking coolant from the intake manifold..so i took everything apart..replaced all the gaskets ..put it all back togwether..low and behold it wouldnt start..so i got to digging around.. replaced cap and rotor. replaced ignition control module..replaced coil..wires..plugs..and still no start..had pressure had spark..so after realizing i figured out it was out of timing..set the timing..ba it sttarted..and ran..was pinging but ran. then the ping went away..it would drive..just under heavy loads not so well. very poor acceleration..also the fuel pump was replaced about 6 months ago. anyway so i talked to a gm mechanic..he suggested the crank sensor can become weak..so i ordered one..replaced it..now car wont start at all.. and doesnt seem to have spark either..or fuel pressure..which i was told if the crank sensor is bad it can cause the fuel pump not to engage or icm to produce spark..im at a loss because i have tried everything and have a feeling its something so simple.

I take it that it has the LT1 350(reverse flow head SB chevy). First, make sure everything you disconnected is connected, second check your repair for vacuum leaks.

I feel you have a lean condition,The pinging can be from an intake leak.

As far as timing, what did you do to set it? Timing on a 96 chevy SB is computer controlled. In fact ever since the mid 80s chevy has had computer controlled timing and eliminated mechanical weights, springs points and vac advance. If you actually physically turned the distributor you could have advanced it too much, caused the knock sensors to go off…hence puling spark and poor acceleration.

its just a basic chevy s10 4.3 . if your talking of the same one lol..but ya checked ground and all grounds were fin..what was funny is it was running before the gm mechanic told me to change the crank sensor. once i changed it..it wouldnt start..and checked for leaks..no leaks

Did you use an OEM sensor?
