      Hello all,

I’m new to the forum and can use some help diagnosing my vibration issue. I have a 2000 Chevy S10 Blazer LT 4D 4×4. Ever since I purchased the vehicle little over a year ago it has had a vibration at hwy speeds. At 60 it comes in light to moderate above 70 it becomes unbearable, loud growling vibration that you can feel in the floors, and in the seat. Here’s what has been repaired or replaced: Rear driveshaft u joints shaft straightened and balanced, rear brake rotors, rear axle bearings and differential bearings, right front wheel bearing/hub assy, engine and trans mounts, harmonic balancer, new tires, new shocks, front sway bar bushings, and an alignment. At hwy speed I put the vehicle in neutral and shutoff the engine vibration is still there. It feels like a balance issue however new tires with balance did not change the vibration, thought it might be right rear wheel so today I moved the rear up to the front which was inconclusive. No steering wheel shake or feedback thru the brakes. The engine idles a bit rough however it seemed like after new engine mounts it is more noticeable, also tach is rock steady engine & trans perform well. Shop that rebuilt diff believes transfer case is ok as well. I did repair some vacuum leaks when I purchased the vehicle and I do not see or hear anything unusual from the engine. Sorry for the long post if anyone has any suggestions or encountered this before your help will be most appreciated!

Does your Blazer have the 3 or 4 button 4 wheel drive buttons on the dash? Its been a while, but I do know, one of them, I think its the 4 button, the front driveshaft turns all the time, just not transmitting power. You could have either a bad ujoint, slip joint, or the cv joint on the rear of that shaft bad and binding up.

Its a 4 button Autotrac system. I forgot to put that in my first post but I did just recently replace the front driveshaft with a Cardone rebuilt shaft no help. Also the vehicle has 223000 miles on it. Do you think a roadforce balance would help?

Shutting the engine off at speed, seems to me to eliminate most problems with engine/trans. You could try rotating all the tires, but you said a shop said they “believe” the transfer case is alright. Did they drain the fluid and check for metal flakes? I think my next line of attack would be to get it up on a lift, or SAFELY on some good jackstands, put it in gear and see if you can feel, by hand, any vibration, grinding, noise from the t case.

They did not drain the t-case however they did put the vehicle on the rack and checked for noise/vibration in 2wd & 4wd modes, they said they heard no unusual noise or vibration from the t-case. I will try a road force balance later this week to eliminate the wheels and post the results. I did see a GM TSB P01273B which states vibration issues related to some S10 Blazers is not repairable however I’m not sure if this is true as I am unable to locate this TSB, if I get a chance I may stop by the dealer next week as well. Last do you know of any body mount issues that may cause vibration? Thanks for your help!

Hello All sorry it took so long to post the fix hadn’t had time to work on the vehicle. Anyway had the tires road forced no help, replaced a tire with excessive runout no help. I had a driveline shop check the vehicle over as I felt it had to be something in the transfer case. They said my brand new driveshaft was out of balance and they rebalanced still no help. I found a low mileage used t-case and to the shops credit they installed it for $100.00 for the balance debacle. After leaving the shop with new t-case installed still vibrated at hwy speed although it felt worse. I reinstalled the old driveshaft and the vibes are finally gone! So oddly enuff they fixed the main problem but created another, point is after chasing your tail and eliminating parts replaced you sometimes have to go back to the beginning to figure it out. Thanks for all your help I know its difficult to t-shoot across the web hope this helps others with driveline bad vibes!
