Chevy express 2500 2002 tire jack has failed me

Would a bottle jack be a good and cheap replacement? I was thinking to have a chunk of something to have as a plate under it or on top of it also

I recently started to use my oem one and it stopped ratcheting and I’m not sure why but not really wanting to fix it right away, looking to have a replacement. I don’t own a floor jack or I’d sub that in
