I have a 1996 k1500 with rear drum brakes. Yesturday I replaced the rear wheel axle seals and brake shoes. I got them all back together fine but the adjuster spring on the passenger side seemed to have issues. I checked, checked again and rechecked to make sure it was hooked up right but it didn’t seem to have the same tension on it. It wasn’t loose just seemed looser. Do j need to replace the spring or has anyone else had this problem?

If everything is hooked up right then replace all the springs and hardware.

It could be that years of heat from the brakes has caused a loss of tension in the spring. I’ve even seen this on valve springs in the engine.

I agree with college man; just replace it. A complete spring kit from the parts house is dirt cheap and has everything in it.

Replacing hardware is often a good choice when doing drum brakes. It’s really cheap insurance. That said, make sure you got everything hooked up correctly.

Keep us posted on how things turn out for you and good luck.

Ok thanks. When it warms up some ill take a look at it. I think I’ll just go ahead and replace the hardware though. The job was tons easier since I did the axle seals at the same time and didn’t have the hub in the way
