Hi
I have a 59 Chevy Brookwood wagon with a 70’s 350 motor stroked & bored to 383. It has a hi torque starter on that came with it when i bought this about 5 years ago. My 59 starts fine 90% of the time but sometimes, about 1 out of 10 times, it just make a grinding noise and doesn’t engage or start. If I try starting again right away it sometimes does it again and sometimes doesn’t. If I wait or try a third time it usually starts without the grinding.
Do you think this a shimming problem or old starter problem? Is there a way I can diagnosis this?
