My family had a 2005 Impala. We purchased it last year for $10,000. Promptly (about 3 months after buying) the head gaskets blew. The car had in my opinion low miles (90k). After replacing the head gaskets, the car ran fine and we traded it on a 2008 Caliber. I really liked the Impala a lot because it was big and comfy and looked nice. I heard that the GM 3100, 3400, 3800 engines are notorious for head gasket issues and fluid leaks. Is this true or did we just get a bad apple? This Impala had the 3400 V6 OHV. I was looking into purchasing another Impala but the generation newer 2006-2013. Am I going to encounter the same problems? I believe the 2010 Impala I looked at had a GM 3500. I don’t want to go spend the money on another one if i am going to encounter the same problems because both models seemed to look the same under the hood. I would like your opinions on the Impala engines in general. Doing the head gaskets was a lot of work and money and I really don’t feel like doing them again. Thanks in advance!
