Depending on the state you live in, you can take it to AutoZone or OReilly’s to have them pull your code. Some states do not allow this and you need to go to a auto shop or dealer.
If you’re itchy to try a full diagnosis and repair, then buy yourself an inexpensive Actron ODBII (about $20-30) code reader.
Then pull the code (PXXXX) and let us know so we can better help you.

from there. see if this helps.http://www.ericthecarguy.com/faq/solving-automotive-performance-issues?start=1#PullingCodesPreOBDII
May 16, 2014 at 2:01 am #601316Hey Collegeman, was Honda still using OBDI in 96? I thought they had switched over earlier…or was that their switch over year?
May 16, 2014 at 2:53 am #601325Here are the codes 2 of them are the same P0505 P0505 and P0705 how bad is this and should i stop driving the car or because i don’t have the founds right now to fix this so can someone tell me how much i am looking at right now im begin to think i got a lemon
May 16, 2014 at 3:03 am #601336Two are the same because one is set one the car is started based on expected conditions not being correct. The second would be considered MIL, meaning it is a continuous code and the problem is actively occurring.
The P0705 is a transmission code for your park/neutral positioning. In my opinion this isn’t detrimental and safe to drive with, but could be indicative of an electrical problem. You should look for corroded or unconnected electrical harnesses around your PCM, transmission and under your dash to start with
The P0505 — is an idle air control. This is how much air is entering the engine while sitting. Look primarily for an electrical harness as above. But also now look for a vacuum line that is leaking
You could just need an idle re-learn procedure.
Eric has a FAQ dedicated to Honda idle problems
Go through that section carefully and let us know what you do/learn
Does the car idle rough?
May 16, 2014 at 5:11 am #601362can anyone tell me were i can get the yellow bucket looking thing Eric used bleed the air out the radiator looked on auto-zone not seeing thanks
May 16, 2014 at 7:30 am #601427If you look in several auto parts stores you’ll find it. If not they can order it – it will take a day or two to come in.

It could be obd1 even in 1996. depends on when in when the car was made.
1996 was the switch over. but they may have squeezed some through. Honda
kept the blue diagnostic port even in obd2 cars for a while longer.May 16, 2014 at 8:16 pm #601579
Here are the codes 2 of them are the same P0505 P0505 and P0705 how bad is this and should i stop driving the car or because i don’t have the founds right now to fix this so can someone tell me how much i am looking at right now im begin to think i got a lemon
May 16, 2014 at 9:31 pm #601647The 2 codes may be related. I often just clean the contacts on the range switch and reposition it so that the ‘P’ lights up when it’s in park. Sometimes the contacts on the switch get worn in a particular spot. That usually fixes that problem without having to replace the switch. I would do that, clear the codes, and see if the IAC code comes back.
Keep us posted.
May 22, 2014 at 5:34 am #602780i will im going to the junkyard to buy the part but first im going to clean the ideal air control and then clear the codes and if that don’t work i will replace it
May 23, 2014 at 8:41 pm #603059I think you’d be better off with a new part rather than a used one. That said, keep us posted. Also, here’s a link to the funnel. Sorry I forgot to post it last time.
