Check engine light 1989 Honda Accord SEI

Hey guys, sometimes the check engine light comes on when i try to start the car and the car will not start. The engine cranks over, but will not start. After letting the car sit for awhile, the car will start right up, with no check engine light being displayed. Any thoughts on why this could be happening? Thanks in advance.

next time it won’t start. hold the pedal to the floor
to see if it starts. also see if any codes are stored.
