I have a 1995 2.2L cavalier.I have a check engine light I notice that when going down the road and let off the gas the car wouldn’t stall but it bog down like when down shifting on a manual transmission when I let go of the gas then hit the gas again the bog down feeling would stop I think I’m describing this right the check engine light don’t come on all the time and it still has these symptoms I know I can’t take it to autozone to have them read the codes they don’t scan cars before 1995 and I don’t want to take it to shop and pay alot of money to find out what codes are but I guess I will have to

See if a friend or someone you know has a scanner for ODB 1 GM cars.
Some oil change places offer free scans as well and may be able to scan your car.
Also, some cars have built in diagnostics of some sort.
You may look around on google to see if yours does.

By your description it has a loss of power when you first give it throttle? Also an intermittent CEL. O2 sensor is my guess. Without codes its hard to diagnose though.

There is also this information on pulling GM OBDI codes here.

By the sound of it, you may have a transmission issue. You might want to check the fluid level and condition. More information on those issues here.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Based on the symptoms I’m willing to bet you got a sticky TCC solenoid. The transmissions in these cars are notorious for it. The t/c clutch stays applied, causing the car to bog down. Try finding the connector for the tcc soleoid, unplug it and take it for a spin.

If the diagnostic port can be taken off you can try back probing the jumper leads with the paper clip.

Also make sure it is a bare metal paper clip. Strip the plastic coating off.

You can also use a couple inches of wire for the same effect.
