Cheap code reader, what does this symbol mean?

Of course, there’s not a useable manual with this reader. And I don’t understand what it means here. It appears to be a dollar symbol $.
It appears in lots of the readout, on this unit. Can someone tell me what it means here?

The $ is a signal that the following numbers are in hexadecimal format – range from 0 to 9 then A to F. The values will have to be converted to decimal format before they can be interpreted. There are tables and software for converting the values.
