I have a 2008 Honda Civic with 182 000 KM and the transmission’s bearings are making noise in 1st and 2nd gear and I can also hear it when on neutral as well.

I found a used transmission with about 40 000 KM for 500$ is this a reasonable price?

Also, I know that I will change my clutch/pressure place/flywheel while doing it but I was wondering what should I also do while I’m there? Anyone know any common problems with that car that might require to remove the transmission?

I should mention that this is a DX with the R18 engine.

Oh and while it is dismantled, since I don’t have AC, would it be the right time to add the AC system?

so your 08 car never had air conditioning or was it not working???
I have never see a 08 that doesnt have the parts in it for ac… only time I have see that options on cars was back in the 80’s and early 90’s.. as to adding AC system its up to you…. all you have to do is run the lines and add the compressor and add the grill evaperator on front and inide of the dash and add te vent systems to it… and the controls….
if it just doesnt have charge and thats what your talking about not working ac… then its up to you when you want to do it… just dont forget about the oil for it

as to price I dont know what your currenty is so I would tell you to check Ebay and see what ppl are selling them for it there… you will also have to add shipping to… FYI the shipping could be like $300 USD just by it self

Well since you are near 200k KM I would pretty much change everything unless the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel are in immaculate shape.
I see you are in Canada, so I cannot comment on if the trans is a good deal or not.
Also due to you living in Canada, I am guessing A/C isn’t necessary for you guys and lots of cars come without it to save money.
Adding A/C is always a horse of another color for a vehicle that never had it in the first place. You have to change everything in the dash, add an evaporator, condenser, A/C pump, new belts, tensioners, etc.I would look into an aftermarket system if I were you. It would probably be easier. I’m not a Honda tech, so look into people that have added it to their Honda’s. I’m sure you’re not the first person to have wanted to do that!

            Good luck!

In Canada there are still some cars sold without AC systems… since at least 2014 most of the cars sold here now have AC on the base models tough.

So yeah, my car never had AC

                1. Clutch throwout bearing/bushing depending on whats in your car
                2. I doubt flywheel is bad but inspect it then decide
                3. Inspect main seal and replace if possible (drain engine oil)
                4. Remove hard to see bolts first (my brother taught me this)
                5. Look at newer trans to see how many bolts need removing so get the newer trans before removing current one
                6. I cant answer if 500$ is good price as you will have to call around
                7. Not sure about AC install either
                Good Luck and be SAFE!

For the AC system, I know that it is feasible because I saw one post at some point on 8thgen.com. But since I already removed the transmission I now have a lot more access to add everything needed except inside the dash.

I know that the flywheel is not in the best shape as I already had to change the clutch in December and I was not able to machine it at 100%. Even tough I changed the clutch recently I will still put a new clutch kit and a flywheel just because xD

But my real question would be what else should I do while almost everything is dismantled?

Thanks for you for your answer btw 🙂

sorry I couldnt find any videos at all on how to install a AC system when you didnt have one in there before, but I found a vido of someone removing one… I guess you will just be doing it in oppsiit order…LOL

another thing you might need is a brackets to mount the lines and compressure… you will have to replace the belt because you will be adding a new pull;y
I was reading on a nother forum… it took them 5 hours to do it following the steps in the directions…
if you or anyone else has the instruction on how to do it…. I like to check it out because Ill like to learn about it..
chokesmaster— I have never see a car with out a AC system in it… I guess you learn something new each day

If I take a gearbox out the rear main engine seal gets changed and the gearbox front seal if its accessible. Its also a good time to bench test and clean up the starter.

In order to retrofit a complete AC system to factory perfection, not a baling wire and duct tape job, I imagine you’ll be looking at quite a bit of expense and finicky farting around, even if you get used major components from the salvage yard. (And using second-hand parts comes with it’s own nasty can of worms.)

I would suggest that you’d be better off shopping for another car that’s equipped the way you want it to be.
