I’ve read in various places that the adjustment sleeve on a drag link is used for centering the steering wheel during an alignment. But I’ve just read the alignment section in the FSM for my 1993 Jeep, and it says that the drag link sleeve is actually used for setting the toe on the right wheel.
So are all the people who are advocating using the drag link sleeve to center the wheel actually pushing their right front wheel out of alignment?

Like most things in life, it depends on your perspective…If your front wheels are held straight, and the Pitman arm is crooked… then adjusting the drag link will turn the steering wheel. But if the steering wheel and Pitman arm are held straight, then adjusting the drag link will change the toe on the right front wheel.
To be honest, I know close to nothing about Jeeps, but I do have a firm grasp on how old school recirculating-ball steering assemblies work.
It depends on whether you have crossover steering or a Y-link steering.
Crossover had one tie rod connecting both tires and one draglink to the Gearbox. This setup indeed has one adjustment for Toe and the draglink is to center the steering wheel.
A Y-link steering setup has a tie rod to the passenger side and another tie rod to the driver side. The driver side tie rod connects to the middle of the passenger side tie rod. This setup the the steering wheel needs to be centered before adjusting either tie rod just like a rack and pinion setup.
